Andy Meadows-Interview

1 – When did you first get into music? What or who Inspired you?
I started singing in the Baptist church where my dad led the music. He always used to sing around the house, he has a great baritone voice, and I think that’s probably what first inspired me.
2 – Who did you grow up listening to, and does that impact on what you create now?
Because I was in and around radio I grew up listening to a little bit of everything, classic country, rock and roll, 50’s doo wop music, the Rat Pack, western swing, blues and gospel. I think that eclectic mix makes it hard for me to try to confine myself to one specific genre.
3 – How long have you been playing/writing?
I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember, I began writing and playing guitar around 16 or so. But I was 19 before I actually wrote anything worthwhile.
4 – How often do you play live (include details and links for any upcoming gigs)?
I play live with my 9 piece band every couple of weeks, but we’re starting to ramp up our booking to promote the new CD. We’re actually playing a show today in Corsicana, TX to kick off their annual Derrick Days celebration. I’m also about to start playing a weekly Tuesday night show that’s a little more intimate with just me and my piano player. You can see all my upcoming shows here http://andymeadows.net/shows
5 – What has been your favourite moment in music?
I was 21 the first time I played a gig with my own full band and I’ll never forget the way it felt, the energy of creating something live that an audience was reacting to in real time. The rush of being surrounded by five other guys that are in that moment with you and the way each person’s performance is reliant on the others. I don’t really know how to describe it, the only thing I could compare it to personally at the time was playing sports and maybe dunking a basketball over the opponent and having the crowd go crazy. I remember turning to my guitar player and saying something like, “Holy crap this is incredible”.

Young Malak- INTERVIEW

1 – When did you first get into music? What or who Inspired you?
Growing up I’ve always been around music ever since i was born. I remember listening to artists like Tupac and Michael Jackson and remembering all the words to their songs by the age of 3 or 4. Just being a fan of music inspired me enough as a kid in 2nd grade to begin writting lyrics and poetry.
2 – Who did you grow up listening to, and does that impact on what you create now?
Tupac, MJ, and Nirvana were my early days but summer of 2,000 is when my mom and I moved to Virginia and I was introduced to music like Eminem, Dmx, Jay z, Pharrell, Missy Elliot. I had almost every eminem album growing up but thats because I had a mom who was pretty chill when it came to letting me listen to the music I wanted to. She grew up a rocking roll chick in the 80’s and my grandparents probably hated it when she was my age so never really censored my music. I had thousands of cds and cassette tapes. The impact it has on me now is basically just makes me continue to do what i do best which is music and go at hard as i can until when its all over hopefully ill be in that category of legends I grew up on.
3 – How long have you been playing/writing?
I’ve been writting lyrics and poetry since 2nd grade, Ive been producing as well as engineering since 11th grade, and I’ve been making beats now for over 2 years. Ive also been playing guitar now for about 4 years as well as bass guitar every now and then.
