1 – When did you first get into music? What or who Inspired you?

Music and performing has been in my family for at least 3 generations. Like many other musicians, I started by performing at family occasions since the age of about 3. The first time I picked up a guitar was when I was about 13 and I joined a band with a couple of friends. I went solo a couple of years ago and am really excited to be releasing my debut single!

Over the years I have been inspired by many different genres and bands. I’d have to say my main influences at the moment are progressive rock bands such as pink floyd and Porcupine tree as well as chart music.

2 – Who did you grow up listening to, and does that impact on what you create now?

I grew up listening to Michael Jackson, Queen and everything that was in the charts at the time. I’ve followed the progression of ‘popular music’ since I can remember, and I feel this gives me an understanding of what is relevant in mainstream music. Having said that,I don’t mould my music to be what I think people want to hear. I think the music I create and am passionate about simply falls into the ‘popular music’ category, while having inflections from other genres e.g. funk, progressive rock.

3 – How long have you been playing/writing?

I have been performing on stage since the age of 11, starting in musical theatre. But as a musician, since the age of 13. I started writing music at about that age too. It sort of comes as a package deal I find. You get your first guitar, you write your first song. Needless to say, the first few sings were pretty bad… But I think I’ve improved since then!

4 – How often do you play live (include details and links for any upcoming gigs)?

I set out in 2012 to play over 100 gigs in that year, and I managed to achieve that goal without any help from management or booking agents. It was a tiring year, but I learnt a lot and can now say that I am an accomplished performer and am comfortable on pretty much any stage. Since then, I’ve spent more time in the studio, writing and recording loads of songs, and am now at a stage where i can release my debut single and hopefully do a small tour to go with it. Details of any upcoming gigs can be found on my website/twitter/facebook.

5 – What has been your favourite moment in music?

It’s the small things that have so far made an impact on me. I remember one gig I did amidst the many in 2012. It was a rainy November night in Shoreditch and I had turned up to an open mic show which was always packed. I immediately put my name down to go on first, and when my name was called I stepped up to the stage. My mic started to get some feedback as the small room was so full of people, and I could tell the audience were getting restless as I was setting up my loop pedal. You only got time for 1 song at this place so I knew I had to give it everything. I started laying down a beatbox and I could see everyone perking up and paying attention. As I looped layers on top and started singing, the whole mood in the venue changed, and by the end of it, everyone had learned the melody and was singing along! They even carried on singing after I had finished playing! That was an amazing night, and one I’ll never forget.
