GET TO KNOW: Screams On Sunday’s front women Patty

When did you first get into music? What or who Inspired you?
A long time ago, actually! I mean, I remember those times when I was younger and there were guests at home, I would tell them all to pay attention and watch me improvise and sing stuff. Most of the time I would improvise about super silly stuff, but I do remember singing a lot at home, all the time. I do mean ALL the time. But I first got into music, in a more serious way, when I joined a choir at school. We did musicals and stuff and I really liked it, but that wasn’t meant for me. I wanted something more powerful, something like rock music and a band to play with. I never envisioned myself singing alone on a stage, always wanted someone with me.
Regarding what inspired me… I’ve asked myself that so many many times… And still don’t know. I never had anyone as a role model, never wanted to be like anyone. I just liked and admired people (and still do). I guess that some of those that inspired me and still do were bands like Linkin Park, Papa Roach, and my personal favourite even now, All Time Low.
Who did you grow up listening to, and does that impact on what you create now?
I grew up listening to a lot of different stuff. My dad would play a lot stuff like U2 or Bon Jovi, and my mom preferred stuff like Eros Ramazzotti (an Italian singer) or pop. I started getting into rock when I was 11 or 12. Some of my classmates would show me new bands and I started investigating on my own and looking for stuff that no one around me had ever heard of. I grew up listening to bands like Linkin Park, All Time Low, A Day To Remember, U2, Bon Jovi…  Of course, everything that I’ve listened to till now impacts me and inspires me, even stuff that I don’t enjoy much, but I think it’s important to learn from everything and everyone.
How long have you been playing/writing?
As I said, I’ve been singing since I can remember. But, if we talk about being serious about singing, I guess that started when I was 15/16. About writing… I guess improvising is writing in some kind of way, as writers did years ago with the automatic writing: they would write whatever first came to their minds. Of course, we do elaborate our songs, but improvisation plays an important role when writing. That can also make songs somehow fresh and not so manipulated.
How often do you play live (include details and links for any upcoming gigs)?
We try to play live as much as we can, ‘cos we love it and we can never get enough, and we know people also love it. For now, we’re preparing the shows for next year, so stay tuned!
What has been your favourite moment in music?
Wow, this is a tough one. I think one of my favourite moments was when Screams On Sunday started. My other band had recently split up and I was not sure if I would be able to sing again in a band I liked, ‘cos it was so hard finding the members of the last one. But we eventually did, and it really made me happy, I swear. Another moment I loved was when Screams On Sunday went to London. I think that shows determination and passion. Why else would someone go to another country to play music?
